SAT/ACT Optional? Part of the Problem
While I understand that the SAT and ACT aren’t perfectly designed to test aptitude or knowledge, I think there’s an underhanded-ness involved in academia is dealing with the problem.
By ignoring test scores, they can allow in more students. More students = more tuition. Students, who come without numbers, don’t affect average test scores and thus don’t affect college rankings. In a time period where people are openly questioning the actual value of higher education (since so many garbage institutions rewards garbage degrees to anyone willing to pay for it), it seems awfully convenient that schools are ignoring standardized tests as requirements.
Government funded and government ran state schools are screaming “Come to us so we can collect your student loan money! Money that we the government are giving you to give back to us that you’re legally required to pay back no matter what!”
(While private schools are just capitalists rubbing their hands together at the prospect of free government money… )
