In 1954 my father left everything behind in North Vietnam including his parents, his sisters, and inheritance for freedom. My mom was pregnant with her first child, my oldest brother. They were running away from communism. In South Vietnam they had to start all over again. However, my father believes in self-determination. He used to work for the President of South Vietnam, but he had to resign when he discovered that his boss was a corrupted politician. He went on to work for a radio station called : Mother of Vietnam. It was a front of the CIA. At any rate in April of 1975 he left everything behind again for freedom as Vietnam was lost to communism. He had to rebuild his life again in America. For this his children including me are always in awe of his courage and self-determination. One would not know the hardship that he has endured just by looking at his easy smile all the time. Happy Father’s Day, Dad! You are our inspiration and hero.
